2017 Reading Challenge (and end of 2016)

2017 Reading Challenge (and end of 2016)

Last year I made a post about the Reading Challenges I had planned to take in 2016. Since it is now the start of 2017 I thought it would be nice to reflect on those and set some new ones.

2016

My challenges were:

Read 40 books

I finished 60! A post about my faves will be up soon and check out my monthly reviews to see some of the books I read at the end of the year. Next year I plan to read 50, since I don’t know for sure if I can repeat last years massive catch-up at the end of the year.

2016 Classics Challenge

The challenge was to read one classic every month and post about it. I totally forgot about the posting (or the reading to be honest), but I thought I would check to see which classics I read which month:

  • January:
  • February: A Slip under the Microscope
  • March:
  • April: Slaughterhouse Five
  • May:
  • June: The Sun Also Rises
  • July: Moby Dick, The Tell-Tale Heart
  • August:
  • September: The Secret History
  • October: The Taming of the Shrew
  • November: Mansfield Park, Gooseberries
  • December:

Well, I didn’t manage to finish one each month, but I think I did pretty well. Mostly thanks to the Undercover book club ‘classic’ editions. I think I will try to read a classic every month for 2017 too. Let’s hope I don’t forget again!

2016 Mount TBR Reading Challenge

This challenge was to tackle the TBR (To Be Read) pile in my bookcase. Although I managed to read a ton this past year, I did not finish all the books on my shelve at the start of 2016. To be honest, my pile has grown slightly from 24 to 27 (oops). I think I will at least try to finish all the books on my shelve this year, not just read the ones I buy new. Although that is tough with all the book club reading I am doing. So my mountain is still Mount Blanc!

Pop Sugar Challenge

I also said I would keep an eye on the ‘Pop Sugar Challenge’ and below is how I did!

Looking back through the list I did pretty well, but I did not look at it a lot throughout the year, or use it as a reference to pick up new books. So I don’t think I will do this one in 2017.

2017

So to recap, for 2017 I will:

  • Read 50 books
  • Read at least one classic each month
  • Finish the 27 books currently on my TBR shelve

I also want to try to write more reviews, so let’s see how it goes. On to 2017, may the year bring you lots of books and reading time!
