Favorites: May

I know I haven’t posted in forever, but I could not let June pass without my faves from May. I will try to post a review somewhere this month as well, but we will see how that goes!

From what I have been seeing/listening/reading in the month May I highly recommend the following:

Movie:

I did not see as many movies as I usually do and I blame it on watching Netflix shows. I therefor firstly recommend the show ‘Grace and Frankie’ on Netflix. It is amazing, funny, moving and just great. It is about two 70-year old women whose husbands tell them in the first episode that they want to divorce them and marry each other. It turns out they have been having a secret gay love affair for the past 20 years and now they want to come out. The show focuses on how Grace and Frankie deal with this reveal and slowly grow towards each other, even though they are so completely different. It is laugh out loud funny and great for bingewatching.

I don’t want to leave you hanging on the movie front and there I recommend ‘Monsieur Chocolat’ about the first black clown. It is with the same actor as Les Intouchables, Omar Sy, and again he does an amazing job. You can check out the trailer and more information on IMDb. The story is moving and not just showcases the dilemmas of being black in 19th century France, but it also shows the rise and downfall of two people who deal with fame in very different ways.

Book:

I finished three books in May and my most recommended would have to be The Shining from Stephen King. We read it for our Undercover Book Club and it was a little (very far) out of my comfort zone, which was great. The writing was amazing and it really brought the story to life for me. Which was also slightly problematic, since I get scared really easily. I might try another book by Stephen King at some point, but for now I am sticking to slightly less creepy books.

Music:

May was the month of Eurovision and so the week surrounding this epic glitter music fest was focused on listening to the songs Europe entered into the contest. I have however also listened to other music and I think the artist I would recommend is Parson James. He has an EP out titled ‘Temple’ and I really like his songs and I hope he comes out with more music soon. I am really bad at describing music so I will just write down what Spotify says, which is that it is a mix of gospel, soul and classic R&B. So there is that.
