The Capsule Wardrobe
I first heard about the idea of a ‘Capsule Wardrobe’ from Anna (from Vivianna does make-up). I had started clearing out my wardrobe because I had read ‘The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up’ by Mari Kondo and let me tell you, that book is truly life-changing! I could definitely write a separate blogpost all about it, so let me know if you would like me too in the comments!
Now on to the Capsule Wardrobe.
The idea
I got most of my information about a Capsule Wardrobe and how-to’s from a blog called ‘Un-Fancy‘ which is dedicated to capsule wardrobes and the outfits the writer created. I used her ‘cheatsheet’ to set up mine. She talks about creating a wardrobe of 37 pieces, including coats and shoes. However you can exclude sport clothes, underwear and pjs. With these pieces you create outfits for 3 months, until it is time to make a new capsule. Most importantly, in that time you don’t buy new clothes. You save your money for when you set up your new capsule and decide which pieces are missing for those 3 months. This allows you to really invest in clothes that will last long and really suit you and prevent random purchases.
Creating my capsule
So to start of I selected a color scheme I felt comfortable with for the months October – December. Then I wrote down some go-to pieces, stuff I really love to wear, and find myself always taking out of the closet when I am not thinking about my outfit. This was all according to the ‘cheat sheet’ from Un-Fancy. I then grabbed everything from my closet and put away the things that were not weather appropriate for right now (like shorts). Then I just selected the clothes that fit my color scheme and that would work together and in the end I had 35 pieces that I think will really work for 3 months. The only thing I feel like I need to invest in is another pair of flat shoes. So I am going to try to only buy that in the next 3 months. I wonder if I will stick to it…
So far it is really nice that my closet is really streamlined and you don’t get sidetracked by clothes that are out of season or don’t really work within a theme. It makes creating nice outfits really easy!
Let me know if you would want to do a capsule wardrobe, or already do it. And I will let you know in 3 months if I managed to stick to it!
