Fenix Food Factory

I love having coffee with friends, as you might have noticed by the many café posts on this blog. I also love food, so this week I wanted to share a restaurant, that is not really a restaurant, but you can eat there (which is the most important thing).

The Fenix Food Factory

The Fenix Food Factory is located in Katendrecht in the south of Rotterdam. It is an old warehouse, which has been transformed into a culinary ‘food factory’ with 9 different entrepreneurs, most of which work with food. All food is either locally produced, made inside the factory or otherwise locally sourced. In the food factory you can find beer, bread, cheese, coffee, cider and pate (meat), there is also a book store, an event location and a local produce distributor. You can do your grocery shopping there, or buy a meal and eat in the big open space in the middle.

The experience

All the entrepreneurs are located along a big open space, in which chairs and tables create the feeling of a large living room. This way, if you come with a group, everyone can get some food they like and you can all dine together in the middle. There is also an outside area with a bbq and a food truck that changes every so often.

Besides food there is also a book shop, in case you need some reading while eating.

Overall the Fenix Food Factory offers a great diversity in types of food, while still being locally sourced. The products are all fresh and made with love and this does not just make the food taste better, it also adds to the great vibe of the place in general. When the sun is out you can either join the liveliness of the Deliplein on the one side of the building or look on to the river on the other side of the building.
